Karaya is a natrual hydrocolloid and has excellent skin care properties. Karaya ostomy powder is most often used on open or denuded skin, the powder provides an absorptive and protective layer, allowing the wet skin to dry before applying the baseplate. K-Gum (karaya gum powder) is a remarkable powder that absorbs moisture in open, weepy, skin and promotes granulation in open wounds. Karaya powder is made from the highest quality karaya gum powder available and has the highest standards of uniformity, cleanliness, and performance.

How To Use Karaya Powder:

After bathing, pat dry the peri-stomal skin (skin around the stoma)
Dust K-Gum stoma powder onto skin peri-stomal skin that is red or irritated. Karaya will protect raw and weeping skin by creating a sticky gel. Let powder dry or crust
Apply the skin barrier/ostomy appliance as normal

Directed by my ET nurse, I sprinkled the karaya on my skin that was weepy consistently for about a week or so and it was AMAZING at how it cleared things up!

K-Gum karaya powder from Parthenon is the first product to finally clear up the skin around my stoma. I've searched for years, using stomahesive powder, flat/convex wafers and anything else I could find that offered hope of healing peristomal skin. I was told by a nurse that karaya powder was an old remedy that worked really well having both absorbing and healing benefits. I tried the small 1 oz size Kgum at first and it cleared most of my skin up in a few weeks. Enough said.
