You can mold Eakin Cohesive^® Seals into a variety of shapes to prevent leakage around the stoma by acting as filler for uneven skin surfaces.

The most common problems facing ostomates are leakage and skin irritation. Leakage can occur when output is particularly watery, when there are dips and crevices around the stoma or from using a poorly fitted appliance. Such leakage can then cause irritation to the surrounding skin, making it red and sore.  Small Eakin Cohesive® Seals are thicker than the others and are designed to provide maximum skin protection for those with existing skin irritation or potential leakage issues.

When should Small Eakin Cohesive® Seals be used?

• To offer MAXIMUM protection against pouch leakage
• To provide MAXIMUM absorbancy
• To heal sore, irritated skin
• To extend pouch weartime
• To provide “soft” convexity for flush or retracted stomas (but not to substitute convex pouches)
• For use with high output stomas/fistulae.

How to Apply the Eakin Cohesive Seal

1. Ensure the skin around the stoma is clean, dry and free from grease and creams.  Warm the Cohesive Seals to body temperature before use.
2. Remove the paper from both surfaces. Mould the Cohesive seal into shape to fit your body's individual requirements.
3. Position on the body and carfully mould to ensure a snug fit around the stoma. Don't worry about handling the Cohesive Seal. It will not lose stickiness.
4. Place stoma pouch onto the Seal, holding in position for a short period of time.

Eakin Cohesive® Seals and Skin Barriers are moldable, moisture absorbing skin barriers designed to help protect the skin from contact with body fluids.

INDICATIONS

Eakin Cohesive® Seals and Skin Barriers can be used for skin protection as:

An ostomy seal for ileostomies, colostomies, and urostomies

An external packing agent on uneven skin

A sealing agent around wounds, fistulas, and surgical drains

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use to cover broken skin or open wounds. Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barriers should not be used on individuals who are sensitive to or who have developed a sensitivity or allergic reaction to the product.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Note: Different shapes or sizes of Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barriers can be combined as needed when the skin is very irregular or extra protection is required.

APPLICATION

1. Make sure the skin is clean, dry, and free from any solvent or greasy substances.

2. Remove the release paper from both surfaces and gently mold, roll, stretch or compress the Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barrier to any shape to fit the requirements of the patient’s body. Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barrier may be cut and rejoined to fit around difficult sites.

3. Gently apply to the skin with a little pressure and hold in place for about 30 seconds.

4. Gently smooth the Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barrier towards the base of the stoma, or the edge of the wound, fistula or drainage site to ensure a secure seal.

5. Place the ostomy pouching system directly onto the surface of the Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barrier and hold in place with gentle pressure until secure.

REMOVAL

1. Gently remove the ostomy pouch system by peeling from the body.
2. Eakin Cohesive® Seals or Skin Barriers will not harm the skin when being removed from the body. Residue can be removed from the skin by rolling and peeling.
3. An emulsifying agent or medical adhesive remover can be used topically to remove tackiness from the body.
