Take care of your stoma and the skin around it. This is just one aspect of caring for your stoma. Some things are not that simple. Here is a quick and dirty list of things we found that should signal you act fast to contact your wound, ostomy, continence nurse (WOCN) or doctor!
- you get a deep cut in your stoma
- you have excessive bleeding from the stoma opening or inside your ostomy pouch
- there is bleeding at the point where your stoma meets the skin of your abdomen
- you have severe skin irritation or severe ulcers
- your stoma changes colors to a purple-blue color
- any unusual changes in the size and/or shape of your stoma
