Take care of your stoma and the skin around it.  This is just one aspect of caring for your stoma.  Some things are not that simple.  Here is a quick and dirty list of things we found that should signal you act fast to  contact your wound, ostomy, continence nurse (WOCN) or doctor!

1. you get a deep cut in your stoma
2. you have excessive bleeding from the stoma opening or inside your ostomy pouch
3. there is bleeding at the point where your stoma meets the skin of your abdomen
4. you have severe skin irritation or severe ulcers
5. your stoma changes colors to a purple-blue color
6. any unusual changes in the size and/or shape of your stoma
