Rocky Mountain Region WOCN Fall 2011 Conference "Maneurvering the Slopes of WOCN Practice"
WOCN Nurses and Industry Leaders Converged in Salt Lake City, UTAH September 22 - 24th for the Rocky Mountain Region annual conference. Ostomy nurses representing Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah were in attendance. Even Dorothy Doughty, MN, RN, CWON, FAAN was there for her presentation, "Sexuality and Quality of Life for Ostomy Patients." Many of the ostomy manufacturers were represented such as ConvaTec, Hollister, Coloplast, Nu-Hope Laboratories, Genariex, and Parthenon. In addition to ostomy, new innovations in wound care products were present. Of special note, new products for skin care were demonstrated by Safe n' Simple Wipes (Skin Barrier No-Sting Wipes, Integrity Thin Barrier Rings, and Peri-Stoma Wipes), as well as 3M (Kind Removal Silicone Tape). 3M's Kind Removal Silicone Tape is ideal for patients with sensitive skin. It can be used anytime you want to prevent pain and protect skin health and barrier function, without sacrificing reliable, consistent adhesion.
The Great Comebacks Award for the Western Region was presented by Rolf Benirschke to Randy Henniger of Folsom, California. Randy underwent colostomy surgery at only 30 years old after being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. 26 years later, Randy is active in the ostomy community by mentoring other patients and their families. He is a great model of hope and perseverance for all people affected by cancer.

About the Great Comebacks Program
The Great Comebacks® Program began in 1984 under the leadership of Rolf Benirschke, with support from ConvaTec. It was designed to raise awareness of quality of life issues for people living with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colorectal cancer or other diseases that can lead to ostomy surgery. Today the Great Comebacks community has spread far beyond its original borders, raising awareness around the globe through inspirational individuals who have chosen to share their stories and offer hope to others facing these diseases and transitioning to life after surgery. http://www.greatcomebacks.com
